
Carlos Mickan
Vice Chairman of the Board, Head of Finance and AdministrationRole & Responsibilities:
Carlos oversees Pan-American Life Insurance Group’s financial operations and administration in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean as Vice-Chairman of the Board and Head of Finance and Administration. This includes oversight of investment management, information technology, risk management, corporate development and human resources.
Career:
Carlos has more than 30 years of industry experience and prior to joining Pan-American Life he served as senior vice president and CFO of Principal International Inc., the International Division of Principal Financial Group, where he managed financial relationships and activities across Latin America and Asia. Before joining Principal in 1999, Carlos held positions with Aetna International serving as Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for 12 international subsidiaries; and as country officer/liaison for the Venezuela joint venture. Prior to that, he was chief financial officer for Cigna Latin America and assistant treasurer for CIGNA Worldwide.
Boards & Industry Associations:
In addition to serving as Vice-Chairman of Pan-American Life’s Board of Directors, Carlos is also a member of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Ballet Association where he serves as Vice Chair – Board Development. Carlos is also an emeritus board member of the Louisiana Appleseed and serves on the Advisory Committee for Risk & Uncertainty Management Center at his alma mater, the University of South Carolina.
Education:
Carlos is an alumnus of Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, where he earned a bachelor’s degree of science in business administration. He also received an M.B.A in international business from the University of South Carolina.
