Privacy Policy Highlights

At Pan-American Life Insurance Group, Inc. and its controlled affiliates, subsidiaries and branches (collectively, “PALIG”) we are highly committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and the security of all personal information entrusted to us. For this reason, we have developed this Privacy Policy to describe how we collect, process and protect your personal information.  This Policy also notifies you of the choices and rights you have in regards with that information.

Some of the most important highlights of this Policy include:

  • We collect personal information in connection with the products and services we offer. This may include information we collect when you apply for insurance, pay your insurance premiums, or provide us your contact information. We also collect personal information directly from website visits; portal visits and automated means, such as cookies. Finally, we collect personal information from third parties, like service providers and credit agencies.
  • Processing: We process your information when necessary to deliver services or execute transactions you request. We may also use it to improve our websites and portals and, with your permission, to inform you of available products or services. Finally, we will process your information in connection with a job application or inquiry.
  • Sharing: When necessary, we may share your personal information with affiliates, our trusted business partners for limited processing purposes that allow us to complete day-to-day business processes, like claim processing, and with other companies to provide services on our behalf, such as hosting websites or sending out information. We may also disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal requirements or respond to court orders, to protect and defend our rights or property, or in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of any individual.

We will take steps to make sure that appropriate protection is in place to safeguard your information if it is transferred internationally.

  • Protection: Protecting your information is of the utmost importance to us. We use technical and physical safeguards to protect the security of your personal information from unauthorized disclosure. When we de-identify information, we are committed to protecting that information as well as not manipulating it to re-identify it.
  • Your Rights: To the extent provided by the law of your jurisdiction, you may have rights such as to (1) to know if PALIG processes your personal information and to access that information; (2) request that we update, correct, amend, erase or restrict the use of your personal information; (3) withdraw your consent to allow PALIG to process your information; (4) exercise your right to data portability; (5) request a list of the third parties we share your information with; (6) or log a complaint with the appropriate regulator.

We will not discriminate against you for the exercise of these rights.

Our Commitment to Privacy

PALIG strongly believes in the value of privacy; therefore, our privacy commitments are fundamental to the way we run our business.  We intend to ethically use and safeguard all personal information that is collected and processed.

  1. Information We Collect About You
    Information collected from direct interactions with you. This refers to information you provide us with when you contract our products or services. For example, when you apply for insurance, pay your insurance premiums, register on our portals or provide us with your contact information. This information can be collected in person or by other means.

    Keep in mind that we may record your calls at the customer service centers. These calls may be used for training, quality assurance, fraud prevention, and other business purposes.

    Information collected directly from visitors. In most instances, you can visit our websites without providing any personal information. However, on some pages, you may give us your personal information (i.e. information that identifies or reasonably can be used to identify you) by filling out forms.  This includes personal information you provide when you:
  • request information on our products or services
  • create an account on our website
  • subscribe to our blog or newsletter
  • request marketing information
  • enter a competition, promotion or survey
  • give us feedback or contact us
  • apply for employment

You are not required to provide any of the above-mentioned information. However, if you choose not to, we may not be able to provide you with the requested service or complete your transaction.

Information collected from portal visitsTo access our portals, you will need to provide sufficient information to create an account.  Additionally, and subject to your relationship with PALIG, you may make requests that involve collecting additional personally identifiable information, personal health information and personal financial information.

Information collected by automated means. We collect certain information about all visitors to our websites and portals, including what pages they view, the number of bytes transferred, the links they click, and other actions taken within our websites and portals. We may also use this information to improve our security measures. We also collect certain standard information that your browser sends to every website you visit, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, your browser type and capabilities and language, your operating system, the date and time you access the site, and the website from which you linked to our site.

    Cookies are small files that websites and portals save to your hard disk or to your browser's memory. Our websites may use them to track the number of times you have visited the websites, to track the number of visitors to the websites, to determine and analyze visitors' use of our websites, to store information that you provide (such as your preferences), and to store technical information related to your interactions with our websites. We may also use session cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, to store your user ID, to facilitate your movement around our websites.

    Our websites may also contain electronic images known as Web beacons—sometimes called single-pixel gifs—that allow us to count the number of users who have visited those pages.

    Our websites and portals may use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, which are web analytics services provided by Google LLC. These services use cookies to analyze your use of our websites or portals. The information collected by these cookies about your use of our websites or portals is transmitted to and stored on Google servers. Google uses this information to assess your use of our websites or portals and provides reports on data. This data may include how often you visit our websites or portals, what pages you view when you visit the websites or portals, and what other websites you have visited prior to visiting our websites or portals. Google may transfer this information to third parties, if required by law or if third parties process the information on behalf of Google.

    We may use Google reCAPTCHA on our websites or portals, which checks whether our websites or portals are being used by humans or bots. reCAPTCHA analyzes website visitor behavior based on various characteristics, including mouse movements, visit duration, IP address, and other information.

    You may choose to allow or disable cookies which are not required for our sites via the Cookie Preference Manager, which may be accessed through the banner when first visiting our websites. To set or modify your preferences on subsequent visits or at any time, the Cookie Preference Manager may be accessed via the Cookie Preferences button located at the bottom of our website.

    You can also opt out of the collection of your personal information via cookies by enabling a Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) signal, which may be accessed by installing a supported web browser or browser extension.

    Adjusting Browser Settings to Manage Cookies or Send “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” Signals:

    Most Internet browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser settings to decline cookies or to notify you when a cookie is being placed on your computer. If you choose not to accept cookies, you may not be able to experience all of the features of our websites. Internet browsers also enable you to delete existing cookies, although this means that your existing settings (including stored user IDs and other preferences) will be lost.  Some web browsers may also give you the ability to enable a “do not track” or “global privacy control” setting. This setting sends a signal to the websites you encounter while web browsing. If our website receives a global privacy control signal, we will honor it.

    Social Media Third Party Cookies

    During your visit to our websites, you may notice embedded content from other social media websites such as YouTube, Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. When you interact with content for example, by playing videos embedded in our website or accessing social media platforms from our website, you may be presented with cookies from these third parties. Some of these third parties may collect your personal information for targeted advertising.  

  1. Processing Your Personal Information
    We will process your personal information only for the purposes set forth below:

    Services and transactions. We process personal information to deliver services or execute transactions you request, such as providing information about PALIG products and services, answering customer service requests, providing you insurance coverage, processing claims, facilitating use of our website and portals, and so forth. To offer you a more consistent experience when interacting with PALIG, information collected by our websites and portals may be combined with information we collect by other means, i.e. phone, e-mail or paper. 

    Website and portal improvement. We may use information about you to improve our websites and portals (including our security measures) and related products or services, or to make our websites and portals easier to use by eliminating the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information, or by customizing our websites to your preferences or interests.

    Marketing Communications. With your permission, we may use personal information to let you know about available products or services.  When collecting information that might be used to contact you about our products and services, we give you the opportunity to opt-out from receiving such communications. Moreover, each email communication we send includes an unsubscribe link, allowing you to stop delivery of that type of communication. If you elect to unsubscribe, we will remove you from the relevant list within 10 business days.
  1. Sharing of Personal Information

    PALIG will share your personal information with third parties only in ways that are described in this Privacy Policy. Your personal information is never shared outside PALIG without your permission, except under conditions explained below.

    Because PALIG is a global company, your personal information may be shared with other PALIG affiliates governed by this Policy to provide the services you request. 

    Third-Party Processing. We may share your personal information with our trusted business partners for limited processing purposes that allow us to complete day-to-day business tasks like policy issuance, premium payments, claim processing etc. When we do so, we require our business partners to exercise reasonable care to protect such information and restrict its use to the purposes for which it was provided to them and to never sell your information.

    Disclosure to service providers. PALIG contracts with other companies to provide services on our behalf, such asWe provide these companies with only those elements of personal information they need to deliver their services. These companies and their employees are prohibited from using your information for any other purposes.

    Disclosure for other reasons. We may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with legal requirements or respond to court orders, to protect and defend our rights or property, or in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of any individual.

    We do not sell your personal information to anyone, for any purpose. Likewise, we do not use automated means to make decisions that involve sensitive information.
  1. International Transfers of Personal Information

    PALIG may share customer information within our affiliates governed by this Privacy Policy for a variety of purposes, for example, to service your policy or to provide you with the latest information about our products and services and offer you our latest promotions. To facilitate our global operations, we may transfer personal information from your home country to other PALIG locations.

    The countries, including the U.S. and the other countries around the world where our individual affiliates, suppliers, or business partners maintain offices, to which we may transfer such information may have different information protection laws than the countries from which the information was initially collected or from which individual website or portal visitors access the website or respective portal. To protect your information, we make sure to implement safety measures applicable to information in transit, and to include contractual protections that ensure reasonable safety levels for your information.

    By choosing to use our websites and portals and by submitting personal information to us, you consent to the transfer of such information outside of your country. When applicable, we will request your active consent to process sensitive information.
  1. How long do we keep personal information?

    We will only retain your personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting or reporting requirements. We may retain your personal information for a longer period if we have a legal obligation to do so (e.g. in the event of a complaint or if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation, or regulatory investigation).

    To determine the appropriate retention period for personal information, we consider the amount, nature and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal information, the purposes for which we process your personal information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or other requirements.

  • Our team continuously monitors and updates security software, operating systems, and browsers to address vulnerabilities promptly.
  • When we de-identify information, we adhere to strict guidelines to prevent re-identification.

Access Control:

  • Access to your personal information is restricted to authorized personnel only.
  • Employees, agents, brokers, and contractors with a legitimate business need are granted access.
  • These individuals process your data strictly based on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality obligations.

  • We’ve developed robust procedures to handle suspected incidents. If a breach occurs, we promptly investigate, take corrective actions, and notify you and relevant regulatory authorities as required by law.

    Our websites may contain links to other websites on the Internet that are owned and operated by third parties.  These websites operate independently from ours, and we do not control and are not responsible for the content, security or privacy practices employed by other websites.   1. How do we manage the information of a child?

    We do not knowingly solicit or collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without parental consent, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe that a child under age 13 may have provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us.

    To the extent provided by the law of your jurisdiction, you may have rights such as to (1) to know if PALIG processes your personal information and to access that information; (2) request that we update, correct, amend, erase or restrict the use of your personal information; (3) withdraw your consent to allow PALIG to process your information;  (4) exercise your right to data portability; (5) request a list of the third parties we share your information with; (6) or log a complaint with the appropriate regulator.

    After receiving your request, we will authenticate your identity and work on your request. We strive to respond to all legitimate requests within thirty (30) days. Occasionally it could take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made more than one requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated. Please note we will not discriminate against you for the exercise of these rights.

We Do Not Sell your Information: we will not sell your personal information to anyone, for any purpose. Likewise, we do not engage in the use automated means to make decisions that involve sensitive information. 

Your Rights

To exercise your privacy rights, you must submit a verifiable request here. Once we receive and verify this request, we will strive to respond to all legitimate request within thirty (30) days the number of days, unless an exception applies. However, we limit the use of your sensitive information to those uses allowed by the CCPA, so there is no need for you to request to limit the use or disclosure of your sensitive personal information.

-Colorado Residents:

  • Right to Know, Access and Portability: Customers may request that we disclose the personal information gathered about them and that we provide this information to them in a portable format.
  • Right to Delete: you have the right to delete personal information that we have collected from you.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt-Out: You have the right to opt-out of selling or sharing of your personal information by us. Although you have this right under Colorado law, we do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration or share it for cross-contextual behavioral advertisement.
  • Right to Appeal a Refusal to Take Action related to Privacy Rights: You have the right to appeal our refusal to take action on privacy rights requests.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the appeal, you may contact the Colorado Attorney General to submit a complaint.

  • Right to Revoke Consent to Process Sensitive Information: you have the right to ask us to stop processing your sensitive information in a way that is at least as easy as the mechanism by which you provided the consent to process it.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: You have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of your privacy rights.

-Connecticut Residents: 

  • Right to Know, Access and Portability: Customers may request that we disclose the personal information gathered about them and that we provide this information to them in a portable format.
  • Right to Delete: you have the right to delete personal information that we have collected from you.

Privacy Rights under Cayman’s Law

  • Right to Know, Access and Portability: Customers may request that we disclose the personal information gathered about them and that we provide this information to them in a portable format.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.
  • Right Regarding Automated Decisions without Human Involvement: You have the right not be subject to decisions made by computers without human involvement if such a decision significantly affects you. You also have the right to ask us to reconsider the decision or take a new decision.
  • Right to Revoke Consent to Process Personal Information: you have the right to ask us to stop processing your personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Direct Marketing.
  • Right to be Compensated for Damage: You have a right to be compensated for any damage that occurred because of a breach of data protection.
  • Right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman: You have a right to file a complaint if you consider that your rights are not being respected.
